Harvestville Farm Trip July 2020

Last week we finally got out of the house and headed south to Harvestville Farm. Fall is normally the time of year we visit, but Harvestville has something to offer year round!

From their website:

“Harvestville Farm is part of a 5th generation family farm located in Southeast Iowa. For over 100 years, our family has strived to be an ecologically friendly farm and firmly believe in being good stewards of the land. Our mission is to provide a fun, safe, educationally based rural experience for families by offering unique hands-on agricultural related activities. We also provide our freshest garden veggies, homegrown pumpkins, squash, gourds, and offer fresh cut trees and all the trimmings for your home during the holidays. Adam & Julie and Kathy – Owners”

Our first time visiting in the summer season was exactly what we needed for a day out of the house. The weather was perfect and we really enjoyed it. We walked around, got some fresh air, and brought home some fresh produce and yummy sweets. Eleanor was too busy running around to be bothered for photos or to even look at the camera.

We picked up some zucchini, sweet corn, and PEACH BREAD. The peach bread was amazing!

Fall is definitely Harvestville’s most popular time of the year. They have so much to offer. A large corn maze along with a smaller one for children. Horse carriage rides, a jumping pad/pillow, pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, and tons of other family activities. They have so many extra activities as well like flash light nights in the Corn Maze, Bon Fires, and even a ‘Find the Wine & Hide the Hops Event’ in the corn maze. Adults only of course.

In the spring and summer they offer flowers, produce and something I more recently learned of ‘Farm to Table’ dinner events. Here’s what their Facebook:

“Each Farm to Table Dinner will feature fresh produce picked straight from our garden, along with locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meats prepared by area chefs within our regional community. Seasonal menus are chosen as collaborations between each chef and our farm to enhance our guest’s dining experience through incredible flavors, textures, and vibrant color presentations. Each dinner consists of a five course meal, along with a beautiful atmosphere, great conversation and wonderful music.”

The last dinner of the 2020 season is just around the corner, 2021 I’m going to have to check one of these out.

During Christmas time Harvestville offers fresh Christmas trees, a great gift shop, and a chance to meet Santa.

Late Summer they offer a Sunflower Festival. Acres of beautiful sunflowers perfect for photos. I think this year I’ll be making a trip down. The festival is based on the sunflowers, of course, so hopefully mid August.

In addition to the main barn they also have Pitchfork Cafe serving a great menu and a place to eat with a view. Here is a link to the website where you can find hours and a seasonal schedule and menu.
